What is wobble hypothesis?

Wobble hypothesis (Francis crick 1966)-
  • Base pairing between the third base of m-RNA codon and its corresponding anticodon in t-RNA is more compatible.
  • Wobble position means the third base of codon  and its corresponding anticodon.
  • The nitogen base of anticodon  U can form bond with A or G in the third position of codon loop of m-RNA. As the base pairing rules are flexible in wobble position.
  • This hypothesis  explains the pattern of degeneracy.
  • The first 2 bases pair with by watson crick rules.
  • There are 64 codons out of it 3 are nonsense codons (64-3=61) so, one per each codon  but due to pattern of degeneracy  only 49 t-RNA are required as some t-RNA can recognize more than one codon.
